Last Saturday, I lost one of my best mates in racing, when Martin Finnegan was killed at the Tandragee Road Races.

Finbar was without doubt the most exciting racer on the Irish roads scene - ex-motocrosser who loved to make his superbike do things it wasn't supposed to! [link]

I'm gonna miss him, badly.

I'm really sorry for your loss, Simon. Don't really know what else to say except my thoughts are with you and his family

Thanks mate. I know, it's hard to know what to say...

I was shocked when I read about this. He was a modern era road race legend and a top bloke from what I saw of him on TV, in mags etc...

And he was one of the few people braving the MVs, using some of his own funds too.

Must be truly gutting to lose a friend, it's bad enough when it's a rider you don't know from Adam and only appreciate them as a racing fan.

My thoughts go out to his family...

That he was, as well as being one of the nice guys in the paddock, and a born showman! And as for the MV thing - awesome, what a bike!

Having grown up surrounded by roadracing, I know that bad things happen in this sport, & its gutting to heard that one of your heroes has died.
This was no exception.
I only met him the once, but he was very kind & polite & took the time from working on his bikes (V-Trans Hondas that year) to sign my art work.

I will never forget the black lines at Ramsey hairpin as he locked the back wheel & "backed it in". Bloody Marvelous!

Top rider, top bloke. He'll be greatly missed in & out of racing.
So sorry for your loss.

Thanks mate. I know exactly what you mean; no sport on the planet has such highs and such lows, eh?

Doesn't surprise me in the least. One little piece of good news; was in Dublin last Friday for the Supporter Club's fundraiser for Rachael and Brenda. They raised around €200,000!!

That's an excellent result. Just shows how much people thought of him.
I have a painting of Martin on the V-Trans Honda that i wanted to get signed by as many riders as possible at this years TT. Then i would donate it to the trust fund. But i got 2 signatures (Milky Quayle & Les Shand) and walked up to Guy Martin for a sig, but he wouldn't sign any of the pieces i had there. Just refused to sign anything. So i gave up. Very disappointed.
I will try again at the Southern 100 in a few weeks. But I'll avoid Guy Martin this time.
